In 1907, Montessori had the opportunity to apply her ideas and methods at the Casa dei Bambini, or Children's House, in a low-income neighbourhood in Rome. This was a revolutionary educational centre that offered children a structured and stimulating environment, allowing them to develop skills independently. The success of this first school, where disadvantaged children showed remarkable improvement in learning and behaviour, led her to refine and expand her method. Montessori observed that when children were free to choose their activities within a prepared and nurturing environment, they showed deep concentration and a natural love of learning.
